A good indicator of a company’s exposure and overall appeal can be found via the Internet through a term known as “traffic ranking.”
If you have no idea what Traffic Ranking is, we’ll clear that up – but it’s “geek speak” for website owners and Internet gurus who battle for position and exposure on the World Wide Web.
In simple terms – think television Nielson Ratings for the Internet. Like Nielson, a segment of the population is polled on their “viewing habits.” Traffic ranking and data can be drawn from various sources. Website owners’ use all kinds of tools to track and gauge “hits” to their sites. For them – traffic, site popularity and exposure is King.
One of the most popular forms of ranking is Alexa. Data for Alexa is pulled from Internet users who have installed the Alexa Toolbar on their computer or browser. Alexa was founded and created back in 1996 – then acquired by Amazon.com in 1999 for $250 million in Amazon stock. (Not a bad deal for Brewster Kahle and Bruce Gilliat who created the code and the Alexa ranking system!)
Today, Google holds the number one position on the list as the most visited site according to Alexa, followed by Facebook at the number two position. Both widely accepted and widely used websites.
A couple of years ago, Kim Klaver (a Direct Sales Guru and Trainer) compiled a list of top Direct Sales companies based on Alexa rankings. At the time it came out – it was a very hot topic of conversation and company Representatives took great pride in where they ranked on this list. The idea of competing and ranking higher than other traditional business models, or other companies in the same Direct Sales category (Health and Wellness for example) was powerful and exciting for most of her readers and fans.
More recently, if you’ve been to any of the company meeting and trainings of late, you’ve heard about the MyShoppingGenie Alexa score ascending up the ranks of Direct Sales companies.
While everyone may not know or understand what this “rank” may actually mean – you should. What the executives of MyNet Universe are talking about has sparked a considerable amount of interest and excitement for those who follow traffic statistics and website popularity. This ranking is a key component when securing partnerships and positions with mega corporations like Google, Wal-mart, Amazon.com, BizRate, PriceGrabber, and Ask.com.
Depicted below are the top 5 Direct Sales Company’s according to Alexa. Each company graph corresponds to specific color in the graph and includes Avon, Amway, Melaluca, MyShoppingGenie, and Pre-Paid Legal Services. (All with the exception of MyShoppingGenie are 25 years old or older.)
What’s amazing about this comparison is the way MyShoppingGenie (depicted in blue) came out of nowhere right around the time the company moved its Corporate Headquarters to St. Louis. The spike also coincides with the release of the companies Genie 4.0 upgrade. This one-two punch along with careful planning and training by the Executive Team during a two day training weekend certainly paid off in spades.
Branding quite honestly is another key to the Genie’s popularity and rise. Any one of the Direct Sales Companies listed above (or below) can take advantage of MyShoppingGenies branding capabilities for their primary business. It’s more than just free advertising by giving away free Genie Applications with their logo and link to their company website. The Genie is an additional stream of income when they hand out a free app to thank customers for their business or thank a prospect for taking the time to look at their opportunity.
In closing, a couple of disclaimers about these numbers and Alexa:
Alexa numbers change on a daily basis. If you look back to last year’s rankings, there’s been a considerable shift in just one year. (MyShoppingGenie wasn’t even on the radar a year ago.)
There may also be an attempt to discount the viability of Alexa or how accurate these rankings really are. While that may be the case for sites that rank above 100,000 – overall however, the more traffic a site receives (the closer it gets to the number 1 position), the more reliable the Alexa Traffic Ranking becomes.
It’s been quite a while since anyone has compiled a list of Direct Sales companies – and with all the attention surrounding MyShoppingGenie’s meteoric rise up the rankings, we’ve compiled our own Top 25 list of companies below.
The list may or may not include your Direct Sales company because it may not rank high enough or it may otherwise be unknown to Genie Gems.
If so, we apologize. Be assured that we’ll be keeping an eye on this list. Likewise, if you represent a company that qualifies for this list, feel free to contact us in the comments section and we’ll be sure to include it in our next ranking!

Dreamin. I love blogging. You all express your feelings the right way, because they are your feeling, focus on your blog it is great.
hey there, just wanna say thank you for providing this information. I was searching around ask and couldnt find a single bit of information on this. I am gonna credit you in my report !
· It drives me MAD when I go to a blog and there is that ‘comments closed’ wording at the end.. .don’t know why but I feel as if, no matter HOW old the article is, the owner of the content is saying “all that could possibly be said was said, so whatever you have to add just isn’t important enough to matter”. It takes NO skin off people’s noses to keep comments open, maybe once in a blue moon go back through from post 1-50 and reply… but if you don’t then just don’t… but I think regardless you should leave comments open, because isn’t the whole point to encourage interaction?
hello, I haven’t spoken to you on the icq in a while, but I reckoned I would certainly message you from my cutting edge Notebook!! No fun, I work for a top company at this point in the revision dept. Do not tell any one but we identified this site that is absolutely glitching and mailing out free of charge Netbook!! to any person that signs up. I think you may possibly have to confirm your e mail, Best wishes omafotzen
