If you’ve installed the free MyShoppingGenie application on your computer, you may notice a new message about an upgrade the next time you do a search.

Yes, the MyShoppingGenie 4.0 upgrade is officially here!

With a few simple clicks and a new install of the Genie 4 Setup will have users up and running in not time.

There are a couple of things we noticed about the upgrade that we wanted to offer to help with the installation that you may not be aware of. As with anything new and innovative like the Genie, there are bound to be some things you’ve never seen before.

First, Genie 4.0 won’t appear automatically, you do have to install it by clicking the message and download a new installation of the app. The next time you do a search and Genie 3.0 pops up, you’ll see the message about the upgrade. Click the message and you’re on your way to a whole new shopping experience.

Second, and this will not apply to everyone, but those like us who have x64 bit operating systems will get an error message during the installation. Currently, (and this will most likely change) Genie 4.0 is designed to run on 32 bit, or x86 computers. (Why Microsoft named 32 bit “x86″ is still a mystery to us.) If you receive this error, simply hit “cancel” after the instillation and reboot the computer. We’ve had no problems running on x64 after the instillation is complete after a reboot.

Once Genie 4.0 is installed, it defaults to the 3.0 style and look. To view the new 4.0 upgrade, click the little “up arrow” next to “options” to select the new look and feel. Moving back and forth between 3.0 and 4.0 is as simple as a click on the “up” and “down” arrows found next to the options menu on both versions of MyShoppingGenie.

One of the most anticipated features that makes Genie 4.0 easier to use and navigate are the live previews of the various stores Genie 4.0 pulls up. The “preview” feature is not set to “on” by default. To turn it on simply check the preview box on the bottom left hand corner. (Next to the binoculars.)

Also included in Genie 4.0 are a couple new sites and features. Two new sites that we noticed right away were “Maps” and “DigiDn.com”.

“Maps” are just that. By setting up Genie 3.0 or 4.0 via the options menu to your current location, Genie 4.0 will provide a list of locations via Google Maps of retailers who carry the product or service you’re searching for. A very handy feature inside Genie 4.0 for instances that a local purchase is required.

Also included in Genie 4.0 is a new Digital Download section from DigiDn.com. DigiDn.com provides digital product like e-books, online courses, and various training products that you can instantly purchase and download right to your computer. (Everything from “How to get an Architecture Degree” to “How to Raise a Zebra”) DigiDn.com pulls from hundreds of thousands of digital products found from ClickBank and Amazom.com.

There’s much more included in Genie 4.0 but to be honest, we just upgraded about an hour ago and haven’t been able to fully research all the upgrades and changes in this short amount of time. (We wanted to break the news that it was available for upgrade for the more than million applications already installed.)

There will be more to come for sure, but the wait is over! Genie 4.0 is officially here!
